The CBS News correspondent talked for the first time about the night she was sexually assaulted in Cairo. It's pretty brutal to read.
I'm so impressed with her courage to talk about it. Generally, sexual assault survivors remain unnamed in the media in an attempt to not revictimize them. A few opt to speak out, most do not. She is speaking not only on behalf of assault victims, but for the female reporters who every day risk themselves by covering war and who continue to do it.
They're not crazy or masochistic. They just take seriously what they see as their calling to find out, and tell all of us, what is really going on in the world. We need journalists like that.
